Alakh Pandey, CEO of EdTech unicorn PhysicsWallah, is getting married to journalist girlfriend Shivani Dubey. The wedding will take place this month and will be followed by a lavish celebration at a five-star luxury hotel in Delhi.
Shivani Dubey and Alakh Pandey got engaged in May last year. Like Alakh, Shivani is also a resident of Prayagraj. She is a journalist and enjoys writing about entertainment, leisure, culture, politics and social trends. She has worked with a number of magazines throughout her career.
On the other hand, Pandey dropped out of college in his third year to work as a physics instructor at a school in Kanpur. He later started a YouTube channel that offers tutorials at a lower price. He soon started PhysicsWallah, a company popular among JEE and NEET aspirants that provides tutoring in Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Economics. The firm joined India's list of unicorns in 2017 after raising $100 million in Series A funding. Not only that, but it is also one of India's favorite educators and enjoys a large fan following on social media.
Earlier this week, Alakh Pandey also met Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, to discuss various aspects of the state's education system and the reforms needed to improve the quality and accessibility of education in the state. They talked about setting up coaching centers in Uttar Pradesh, comparable to those once in Prayagraj. After the meeting, Pandey wrote on LinkedIn that he always felt a responsibility towards his motherland, Prayagraj, and that his meeting with CM Yogi Adityanath brought his thoughts a step closer to reality.
